Gemma is offered a drink and replies, “Sorry, I don’t drink.” However, she does end up drinking and Harper later yells at her appalled, “You drank?” The drink turns out to be a concoction of human and animal blood and other disgusting stuff. Let’s put it this way: there is a lot of cursing.

“Cursed under her breath,” “Sh**faced drunk”, bit**(3),He**(2),Da**, Sh**, Holy sh** and God’s name is misused several times. Bodies of the murdered teen boys are discovered. This is discussed like it’s no big deal amongst the Sirens. At one point muses are described as “glorified prostitutes.” We are also told their ancestors were busy “servicing men.” “Inspired” by the muses really seems to mean: they had good sex. After Alex kisses Gemma, she says she felt “fireworks” inside of her. One time is very intense and “his hands roamed over her body.” Other descriptions include: “sliding underneath her shirt,” and “she wanted him, needed him…” When she bites him on the lip during this make out session, she later says Alex probably just passed it off as a “kinky” thing. Gemma and Alex do some heavy kissing quite a few times. We are told that Harper gets a “full view of” Daniel’s manly parts when she accidentally walks up on him urinating over the side of his boat. Homer was apparently inspired by a muse to write and we learn a very detailed history of how sirens came to be. We are told that when the world was young there were gods and goddesses that lived freely among the mortals. Harper is very responsible, loyal and committed to her family. Gemma’s older sister, Harper, takes care of the family after their mother has a terrible accident and is placed in a nursing home. As she uncovers the truth about them, she must fight to keep everything that she loves.
